Project Name: BSA CIBC Century Cycling Award
2. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH THIS GRANT IS BEING REQUESTED?
To continue a cycling program set up by BSA Troop 103 to promote cycling among Scouts as a form of recreation, transportation, health and sport.
Block grants or individual scholarships will be used to reward high levels of personal discipline which demonstrate leadership, high personal character and lead to long term cycling including riding a certified century.
An additional purpose is to reward scouts who promote cycling by mentoring another scout through the merit badge and century ride.

4. DESCRIBE THE TOTAL BUDGET FOR THE PROJECT, AND HOW THE FUNDING FROM THIS GRANT WILL BE SPENT. BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE.
The CIBC BSA Century Cycling Award will involve:
· An award to the three scouts completing all requirements for the CIBC-BSA Century Award: Scholarship/Grant – $1,000 Scholarship + CIBC Jersey (~$65) and 1 yr. family membership to CIBC (~$25) -- Total: $1,090 each or $3,270 for three scouts.
· Mentor Scholarship/Grant -- $100 Scholarship + 1 yr. family membership to CIBC (~$25) -- Total: $125 per mentor -- $375 total for three mentors
· Engraving six (6) names on the CIBC-BSA Century Award plaque @ $10 per name: $60
For the three Scouts and three mentors:
Total for 3 Scouts and 3 Mentors plus engraving palque.................................... $3,705
5. WHAT PROPORTION OF THE TOTAL FUNDING NEEDED FOR THIS PROJECT DOES THIS GRANT REPRESENT?
· This grant represents 100% of the funding for the total project.
· This grant will not be used for any general operating support or expenses for the Troop.
6. WHAT ARE YOUR OTHER MAJOR SOURCES OF FUNDING?
· None.
7. WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC OUTCOMES YOUR ORGANIZATION HOPES TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS GRANT?
· PRIMARY: Strong increase in desire for cycling among Scouts as a means of recreation, transportation, health and sport. I visualize a group of young riders, all with CIBC jerseys, riding decent bikes, involved regularly on local rides.
· SECONDARY: Strong development of Scout mentors for mentoring younger Scouts being introduced to the world of cycling.
· TERTIARY: A small group who may become involved in competition, racing or other forms of riding at the local, state or national level
8. HOW WILL YOUR ORGANIZATION PUBLICIZE THE GRANT AND ITS RESULTS?
All or some of the following will be used to publicize the grant and it’s results:

· BOYS LIFE, and SCOUTING: the National Scouting Magazines
REQUIREMENTS, CONDITIONS and EXPECTATIONS
1. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.
· BSA CYCLING: Complete BSA Cycling Merit Badge
· CENTURY: Complete a certified Century bicycle ride
· CHARACTER: Provide evidence of living by the Scout Oath and Law by providing three letters from people in community (teachers, neighbors, friends, scout leaders, etc) which attest to the applicant living by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
· LEADERSHIP: Demonstrate leadership in troop or community as determined by the Committee (Scout Master, Committee Chair and Cycling Merit Badge Counselor)
· COMMUNICATION: Prepare a 300 word essay on Cycling (Why I Like Cycling; My Century; etc.)
· APPLICATION: Scout must complete an Application and submit to Cycling Merit Badge Counselor
REQUIREMENTS FOR MENTORS:
· Be a current BSA Scout
· Completed the CIBC BSA Century Cycling Award
· Mentor one Scout up through completion of the CIBC BSA Century Cycling Award
· Continue to demonstrate leadership and living by the Scout Oath and Scout Law

· Determined by total number of miles ridden over given period of time (minimum 6 months)
3. SECOND PLACE REQUIREMENTS
· Determined by second highest number of miles ridden over given period of time (minimum 6 months)
4. IN CASE OF TIE
· In the event of a tie in mileage, preference will be giving to the younger Scout
5. REDEMPTION / USE OF SCHOLARSHIP MONIES
· Scholarships must be redeemed or used at local cycle shops associated, or advertising with CIBC and can be used for all bikes, parts and/or accessories.
· Mentor Scholarships are cash awards.
6. LIMITATIONS
· All scholarship moneys limited to Boy Scouts, ages 10 ½ -18, who are current members of Troop 103 or are active members of another troop in Ventura working through Troop 103 Cycling Merit Badge Counselor(s).
7. DISTRIBUTION OF SCHOLARSHIPS/GRANTS
· Determination of having met requirements and distribution of all monies, scholarships/grants and awards will be done by a committee composed of: SCOUTMASTER, COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN and CYCLING MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR from Troop 103.
· CIBC may, at their discretion, select a person to participate in the distribution of the funds and awards.
8. PRESENTATION OF AWARDS
· Presentation of awards will be done at a regular Troop meeting, with sufficient attention given consistent with the level of achievement this represents.
9. PUBLICITY
· The Troop Committee Chairman will ensure proper publicity attends award of all scholarships, grants, and/or awards.
